The average baby spends approximately 350 hours on a change mat. Most change mats are made out of blocks of petrochemical based foams – meaning that your baby is breathing in chemicals every time they’re changed. These chemicals can cause allergies and potentially other health concerns that we don’t yet know about.
These chemicals can also be deemed ‘natural’ (after all – petroleum comes from the Earth!), so no, our change mat is not simply ‘natural’ (and be careful when you do shop natural products to look into the ingredient list!)
Our 100% Certified Organic Latex Change Mat is created with the health of your baby as our primary focus (and literally has no other ingredients except for the organic latex, with an organic cotton cover).
It’s completely non-toxic and chemical-free, and has current and active GOTS + GOLS certifications. Google these if you’re not sure – they’re super important and are the best proof that a product is actually organic and non-toxic.
Because most change mats are made with petroleum based foams and other nasties, they’re also usually very uncomfortable for your baby to lie on.
Our change mat (just like our bassinet and crib mattresses, and our playmats) are extremely comfortable for your baby to lie or sleep on for hours at a time, and are very unlikely to cause any irritations or allergies due to the naturally hypoallergenic properties of our organic latex.
Note: there are 3 layers to our change mat:
- An inner 100% certified organic latex mat (the actual change mat)
- A 100% certified organic cotton cover (like a pillow case, covers the entire change mat)
- Optional outer recyclable vinyl cover to place over lower half of the change mat (the ‘business end’).
(note: vinyl cover is NOT organic but is the best option we have to give you something that is able to be wiped clean – if you prefer, you can remove the vinyl cover and simply place a towel or other item down at the messy end for easy cleaning).

Latex is a natural occurring sap that is found in the bonus Lucius trees. This is a natural barrier that is formed, that protects the tree form both fungus and bacteria. It isn’t a sap but is considered a spam that is milky white and it is found in the layers of the bark.
When you see 100% certified organic latex on the label, that means that both the trees and the plantation where our latex is grown is done without chemicals or fertilizers of any kind. That means everything is chemical free.
This also means we don’t pollute the environment at all.
Latex is collected by cutting a small groove in the outer layer of a tree. This allows the sap to run down into a small cup which is collected daily.
